My Progress

Short Version

Give me money so I can ride 280 miles in on a unicycle in 5 days in honor of  my friend Rachel Davidman!
$10 will do :-)

Long Version

I lost a friend last November who was like a sister to me. Rachel Davidman and I explored dance, music, culture, acro yoga, double dutch, you-name-it, together. But more importantly, she was a wonderful friend who was always there for me, and was constantly connecting people, uplifting people, especially those in need.

In 2013, she rode in the California Climate Ride with team “Carbon Crushers” to raise money for Transform where she worked directing the Safe Routes to Schools Education Program. She convinced me to do the NY to DC Climate Ride later that same year -- which I did on my unicycle. I rode every inch of that hilly 330 mile ride, and it was tough, but so gratifying.

I didn’t think I would do another one, partly, to be honest, because I don’t like asking people for money for yet another fundraising event. But, I’m making an exception for Rachel.

In November, Rachel succumbed to her battle with depression. In her honor, and to support something that was dear to her heart, her friends and family, led by our Team Captain Rosie Mesterhazy, formed our team, “Rachel’s Carbon Crushers”, and from June 12-16 we will ride 280 miles along the Central Coast of California. I will do it on my unicycle.

I must raise $3000 in order to participate -- I’m shooting for a little more :-)

I’d like to make it as painless as possible, and get broad support -- so I’m shooting for 500 donations of $10 each. The support page’s lowest default amount shows $50 (I have no control over that), so, please feel free to click “Other” and put in $10 or even $5. I would love to have a broad following of the many friends I have made over the years.

In return, I’ll keep you updated with a few pre-ride videos, a review of the my equipment, including my unicycle, and some live streams from the ride, and yes, there will be puns and dad jokes too. It should be fun!

Thank you in advance for your support!

Lastly, I want to mention that if you or someone you know suffers from depression, don’t hesitate to reach out:

Rachel taking care of me

P.S. This might seem like a strange picture to include, but I wanted to post one that represented an important aspect of friendship -- helping each other. This is just one of the many times Rachel would patch me up after an injury, or feed me a good meal, or lend an ear when I had something on my mind. Remember to let your friends know that you treasure them :-)
