There are a few things I love in this world: riding my bike, visiting national parks, and telling people about the wonderful work of the Washington Area Bicyclist Association (WABA)! So this year, I'm doing the Climate Ride as an opportunity to do all of those things.
In September, I'll ride from the Blue Ridge Mountains to Washington DC to support sustainability, active transportation, and environmental causes.
This is my first foray into fundraising at this scale, so I hope you will make a contribution! I believe that bicycles are a solution to so many issues affecting the health of our planet, economy, and communities. They have the potential to be the most equitable and affordable transportation system that cities have. But we need infrastructure, laws, and informed drivers and bicyclists to achieve this. That's WABA's jam.
By donating to my campaign, you can do something concrete (heh heh, pavement jokes) to make biking normal, safe, and fun around DC.
I'm riding hundreds of miles and raising money for an organization that I truly believe in. But I'm riding for a personal reason as well.
Last winter, a very small nutritional deficiency spiraled into a bad bout of constant exhaustion that was made worse by heightened depression and anxiety. Basic life maintenance became difficult, so biking and running were out of the questions. I missed those long rides on sunny days, working hard to climb a hill and then coasting down with the wind in my hair (which was, of course, under a helmet).
Since the problem was diagnosed, I've been a million times better, thanks for asking! But I'm still working to get my physical fitness to match my much-improved mental state. The Climate Ride is my motivator to get out on these hot, humid summer days and get stronger.
Your generous gift is an investment in me, and it's an investment in a healthier, safer future. If you have the means, please give what you can.
You can make a secure online donation today by clicking on the 'Support Me' button. You'll automatically receive an acknowledgment and I will be notified by email. If you give $50 or more, I'll even send you a postcard from the ride.
