We were already in the race of our lifetime -- to defeat climate change. The urgency of this race has increased with each year with ever worsening fires, floods, heatwaves, etc). And now, our 47th president has started his term by chanting “drill baby, drill” like a headwind blasting us in our face. But losing this race is not an option, so let’s do the only thing we can do -- pedal harder!
This June marks an incredible milestone for me: my 15th year participating in the Climate Ride. Over the past decade and a half, I’ve seen firsthand the power of collective action to drive change — and this year, I’m taking on my biggest challenge yet. Over ten days, I’ll be cycling 1,500 miles from the Canadian border down to Boston with a goal to raise $15,000 for the Sierra Club and their efforts to tackle the climate crisis head-on.
Why now? Because the pace of global warming is accelerating, and so must our efforts to combat it. From record-breaking temperatures to raging forest fires to increasingly severe storms, the urgency to act has never been clearer. But here’s the good news: we still have the power to create a greener and cleaner future. Every mile I ride and every dollar you contribute brings us closer to a healthier planet for generations to come.
The funds raised through Climate Ride supports the Sierra Club and their innovative programs and initiatives focused on renewable energy, conservation, sustainable transportation, and climate education. Your donation will fuel campaigns like Solar for All, Yes to Wind, and stopping the expansion of methane pipelines.
Here’s how you can help:
- Donate: Visit here to contribute any amount. Every dollar makes a difference!
- Spread the Word: Share this email with friends and family who care about protecting our planet.
- Join the Ride: I’ll be riding all 1,500 miles in Maine late in June. I’ll post more details on my routes soon and it would be a great sign of support if you could join me even if just for a few miles.
Together, we can amplify solutions and inspire change. I’m optimistic about what we can achieve when we work together, and I’m so grateful to have your support on this journey.
Thank you for being part of this mission. Let’s make year 15 the most impactful yet!
With gratitude and hope,
Dennis Desmarais
